Pete Rose, baseball’s banned hits leader, has died at age 83

NEW YORK (AP) — Pete Rose, baseball’s career hits leader and fallen idol who undermined his historic achievements and Hall of Fame dreams by gambling on the game he loved and once embodied, has died. He was 83.

Became a fan of the Reds at the age of 8 or 9 during their run of pennant wins and World Series appearance against the A's in 1972. I recall at least some of the play-off games being on TV during the day time. I remember going to guitar lessons at 5 or 6 and the Reds-Pirates playing on a TV behind the counter in the music shop. Fun times!

Both Rose and Bench were favorites and it was devastating when Rose left his hometown team for the Phillies.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.
