    Olympics

I didn't see an Olympics thread so...

If you didn't see Mondo Duplantis set a new insane world record in the pole vault yesterday, you missed out. Check it out.

I can remember when it was rare for anyone to clear 19 feet and when the 20-foot mark was broken it seemed untouchable. To have so many guys clearing 19 now with such consistency and to have a guy this young SMASHING world records. It's a special time for a fantastic event.

In other news, the "not really a controversy" about the 100M final results outed thousands of imbeciles on social media who don't understand rules, time, or photo finishes claiming that the Jamacain was "robbed" or should share a medal. I was surprised by the volume of stupidity, but I guess I shouldn't be.

Saw that yesterday. Outstanding. Hilarious the announcer says, "I think he's got a chance to clear this bar"

Olympic record and room to spare. He should be able to clear 21 fairly easy. Also heartening is to see the other Olympians vociferously cheering him on.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

The current iteration of international pole vaulting is a sort of mutual admiration society. The three best vaulters in the world Mondo, Kendricks, Lavillenie (injured/recently retired) are big buddies who train together year-round and are always cheering each other on.

I've loved the Olympics. The pole vault thing was awesome. The gymnastics gold that we won on the floor was hilarious because in the background you could see the Romanian girl with the flag around her shoulder celebrating as the announcement came down lol.

In Florida last week we watched a little bit of everything, including breakdancing.

I have enjoyed just about every event except wall climbing. I would like to see more basketball events, especially 3X3, rugby and golf. All track and field is exciting also swimming. I loved i when the kid from Manuel won the bronze.

I've never really be able to get into the Olympics other than wanting the USA to do well.

The men's 1500 final was arguably the race of the century. 4 guys broke the previous Olympic record (established in 2020) and ran a time that only ~10 people have ever run.

Also having two Americans on the podium hasn't happened in 100 years.

It's the greatest thing I've seen since the 2012 800m final that set a won't be broken for another 20 years world and Olympic record.

The USA men's 4X100 relay team is a terrible combination of runners and coaches.

Men's 800-meter final was another "greatest race of all time" contender. Not much drama with the winner going wire to wire but 4 guys under 1:42 is unthinkable. To break an American record, run under 1:42 and not medal...

Also, two of the three medalists on the podium for the women's 110 hurdles were from UK. An athlete from UK won a medal in the men's 110 hurdles and Sydney Sydney Michelle McLaughlin-Levrone hit an absolute NUKE in the women's 4x400. She's incredible. Her team doesn't break a 30 year old American record without her blasting the best 400 of the games.
