Bob Newhart, legendary comedian, dead at 94

Bob Newhart, whose stammering, deadpan unflappability carried him to stardom as a standup comedian and later in television and movies, has died, according to a statement from his longtime publicist Jerry Digney. He was 94.

Digney said Newhart died in Los Angeles on Thursday morning after a series of short illnesses. He called the star’s passing an “end of an era in comedy.”

I grew up watching the Bob Newhart Show.
    Then came "Newhart"

Such a well written and cast show. Still remains the best season finale ever produced.

Suzanne Pleshette would later relate that they didn't get to rehearse the ending, so she and Bob discussed how to do it.

Later at the wrap party she said she simply disappeared, because this was Mary Fran's show and she wasn't going to intrude on her time with a cast and crew she had worked with for over a decade.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Interesting, surveyor. A show I liked, but I must’ve missed the finale. I’ll look that up, if possible.

Well. I feel bad that this might have spoiled it for you but it's a great ending nonetheless.

I purchased the complete series years ago on dvd and still occasionally binge watch in the winter.

It didn’t spoil anything at all. I’m glad to have finally watched it. Plus, all the other videos it brought to attention again, like “Pat Paulson for President”. Lol. I’d forgotten about him. Pretty timely. 😊

IIRC, Paulsen had his own vineyard and produced wine. Paulsen's in a really terrible movie from the 80s called "Night Patrol" it was so stupid it was funny. He was a police officer and it also starred Linda Blair and Murray Langston, who was also the Unknown Comic (wore a bag over his head for his act).

^ Brings back memories of the Tiny Tim, et.al. era when the silliest things were funny. Possibly, that generation just needed a break from heavy things in the news those days.
