I had the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre on VHS. Bought it at Suncoast Motion Picture Company in Fayette Mall. One of the only movies I've actually ever owned.

Others: Memento (also on VHS), Fargo (promotional copy procured by my friend who worked in a video store), Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie (won in a mini-golf contest put on by said video store).

      Oops, almost forgot this one:

Big Top Pee Wee on Betamax. Our first video player was a beta because my dad swore it was the wave of the future.

Alien:Covenant. Where do I begin? I was a wee lad. Eight years old. My Parents took my Sister and I out to Sizzler. I had the steak and malibu chicken. We then went to Showcase Cinemas and saw Alien. I was terrified but never hid my eyes. I LOVED THAT MOVIE. I have seen it numerous times since and it is still awesome. Fast forward to 2012. This was Ridley Scotts sequel to his smash hit Alien. Nevermind that James Cameron made a FANTASTIC 2nd entry. Prometheus got the hype from Fanboys as myself. I hated that movie the first time I saw it. It didn't please what the fans wanted, which is Xenomorphs. As bad as Prometheus was, Ridley Scott wishes he made half as good a movie with Covenant as he did with Prometheus. This movie was a MAJOR letdown, and just a bad film overall. Just when you think the Prometheus universe expands it's ideas, here comes some Xenomorphs to please the fans. This movie did this constantly. Also, you knew when someone was going to die. It was just a very predictable movie. After a while, I just settled in knowing that was the tone. And wondering to myself, "Is this movie going to get any better?!?". The movie looked fantastic but not as good as Prometheus. The acting was decent but I just couldn't get involved with the characters. In short, I wish James Cameron would've continued on with the series. Scott could sure learn a thing or two on how to make an entertaining movie. Remember that Ridley Scott! The fans want to be entertained. We don't want so much mumbo jumbo that you forgot where you came from and have no direction on where to take a film. You don't know which way is up anymore in the Alien series.

Ridley Scott, to my knowledge, hasn't made a good movie in fifteen years.

Were you not a fan of The Martian? I also thought you once said you liked American Gangster. Am I wrong about that?

Oh yeah, I forgot about American Gangster. I liked it. Obviously not the genre masterpiece that it wanted to be, but competently made and acted. The exact same thing could be said about Body Of Lies.

I thought The Martian was corny crap. One of the most overrated movies of that year. Prometheus, as I stated before, probably wasn't a good movie, but I was entertained by it.

Exodus: Gods and Kings, The Counselor, Robin Hood, A Good Year, and Kingdom Of Heaven, are all various levels of awful.

Still: Alien, Blade Runner, Legend, Black Rain, Thelma and Louise, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down and Matchstick Men make up for whatever flaws his latter-day filmography might have.

Film for film, I think I like his brother's filmography more, though, and I'm not sure it's close.

Two good ones there. He has had some great movies like Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Thelma and Louise, and Blade Runner. He just needs to stop the Alien movies all together.

Then VHS took over and we were all like, "Damn! Now we gotta buy/rent even bigger tapes!". My Grandma died last December. When we were cleaning out the house we found Grandpas old VHS Camcorder. Good grief I didn't remember that thing being that heavy. If that came out today there would be a warning label on it. "Known in the State of California to cause scoliosis".

I enjoyed Alien: Covenant in the same way that I enjoyed Prometheus: there are narrative problems and plot holes all over the place, but if you're just going in wanting an entertaining monster movie, it works.

The Leftovers just finished it's three season run last night on HBO and it was one of the most original, daring, baffling television shows I've ever seen. An almost perfect finale, as well.

I've mentioned it recently, but I'll say it again: this show is AWESOME, for people who want a little adventure in their viewing experiences.

                            Instant classic.

You take Nora's story at face value? Last night I was never 100% sure which dimension/reality/plane of existence we were in. I'm not even sure it mattered all that much, but I'm still wondering.

I don't think it matters, ultimately, but, yes, I believe Nora's story. I like that Lindelof sort've left that open for the viewer to interpret.

Damon Lindelof has taken a lot of grief from fanboys and casual viewers alike for "Prometheus," "Star Trek Into Darkness," and (especially) the conclusion to "Lost." I enjoyed "Prometheus" as a monster movie, but not so much as a narrative, and while I understood the complaints about the end of "Lost," I still felt that they stuck the landing with regards to the character stories and emotional payoff (which was always that show's biggest strength, anyway). I don't see how anybody could criticize "The Leftovers" ending, though. Absolutely stunning.

Don't understand the grief over Star Trek: Into Darkness. HATED Trek growing up but really enjoyed the recent movies.
