Scottie Scheffler arrested before start of Round 2 of the PGA Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested and booked into a Louisville jail Friday morning after an incident with police near the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club, the site of this week's 2024 PGA Championship.

Scheffler, 27, is facing four criminal charges − including second degree assault on a police officer, which is a felony − after an encounter with a Louisville police officer who was directing traffic in front of the golf course, following a fatal collision in the area earlier Friday morning.

In a criminal complaint obtained by USA TODAY Sports, the officer wrote that Scheffler disregarded his verbal instructions, accelerated his car forward and dragged the officer to the ground, causing pain and swelling to his left knee and wrist. Scheffler said in a statement that he was "proceeding as directed" by officers and called the incident "a big misunderstanding."

I'd say the PGA is done with Valhalla no matter how it plays out. There have been several complaints about how the tournament is being run.

Was there Monday and Tuesday with my son. Had a great time and I sincerely hope the PGA comes back, but I have my doubts! I heard on the radio that it sounds like they're getting ready to drop all charges against Scottie. What an incredibly strange week! Hate it for the family of Mr. Mills.

I think the course played easy because all the rain made it soft. It's a different story if it's dry and everything is hard and fast.

I'm not trying to be argumentative but why would he PGA be upset. Don't they have total control of the tournament?

If I'm not mistaken, most of the complaints were related to security issues. Whether or not Scheffler deserved to be arrested depends on who you talk to. I would imagine that the PGA powers that be aren't thrilled that the world's no. 1 ranked golfer was arrested under questionable circumstances.

Yeah, good point. We'll see how it plays out.

so 1 cop told him to go in that gate...and when he does that's when it all goes south

Cop did not have body cam turned on....WTH...after all the Breanna Taylor stuff and the DOJ report...just why

Case should be dismissed...Let's worry about all the shootings in this city...4 in 90 minutes last night

                              Relevant reported facts:

                              1. The arresting officer was a detective on the scene to investigate the traffic death that had just occurred.

                              2. As has been reported, body cams aren't turned on by default in situations where an officer isn't expecting an interaction that would warrant it. ie. working traffic control or investigating a death. Had this been a raid or a traffic stop the contextual history with B. Taylor would be relevant in this situation it isn't.
