This got me to thinking about all the famous American boxers like Louis, Ali, Robinson, Johnson, Dempsey, Tyson and Marciano. In my opinion, Ali was indeed "the greatest". I believe, when in his prime, he could have defeated any of them.
The Hagler - Hearns fight was one of the best I've ever seen. To the end, Hearns tried to play it off that Hagler was whuppin' him by constantly smiling at him, but Hagler was relentless.
Outside of Sugar Ray Leonard, probably not a better middleweight out there at the time.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Tyson in his prime would be, "dangerous" to Ali, but peak Ali was... amazing.
I would also have liked to see him fight, peak Bowe (underrated), Hollyfield, and Lewis. They are each so different and better than most of the guys Ali mowed through in his prime.

No matter how bad things may seem, you can always make them worse.

Tyson's speed and power in his prime was a rare sight to see. Were Ali and Tyson both matched in their primes, Ali's prowess as a boxer would win out, I think.
What began to hamper Ali was the onset of arthritis in his hands by the time he fought Foreman.

Big Hagler fan back in the day. The War was a great fight. It's up there with the Ward-Gotti fight. I want my boxing like a Rocky movie. Those fights didn't disappoint. RIP Marvelous.
