There's an Ice Warning out for here (Corbin) from 1:00 A.M. in the morning until 7:00 A.M. Fri. The prediction is for 1/4 to 1/2 in. of ice. I hate cold weather and don't like snow, but ice is positively the worst as far as I'm concerned.

Forecast for Bullitt and surrounding counties south of Jefferson has been upgraded. Projections of ice accumulation has increased up to 1/4 inch. Hopefully it stays below 1/4 inch.

Wife wanted me to stop and buy a generator on the way home until I informed her it would not run our furnace. Fortunately we have a gas stove and a fire place.

She overhears people in her office talking about ice and losing electricity and generators, so, naturally she wants to know "how come we don't have one?"

We don't have one because we've only been with out power for longer than an hour exactly 3 times in the 26 years we've lived here.

Despite the northward shift of the ice storm, we never lost electricity, but the yard and roof are littered with small and medium size limbs. Surprising, because we ended up with about 1/2 inch of ice.

Hope it didn’t cause any damage to your roof. The timing of this storm is sort of odd. The rain just stopped here in Prestonsburg and I assume we will shift to freezing rain and/or sleet now. I think the air temp was too warm or else we might have seen worse conditions.

The trees on top of the hills appear to have some ice, pretty neat looking. Not as dramatic as hoar frost, for example, but still neat

Some of the projections I saw for your area was primarily snow and lots of it. Seemed the system changed somewhat as it tracked east-northeast. It moved slower than initially projected, too. Freezing rain was initially projected to taper off here around 7-8 pm last night, but didn't clear out until early a.m. today.

The trunks of the birch trees sagged close enough to the roof that any limbs that broke off didn't drop very far. The pitch of the roof is steep enough that most eventually slid off the roof.

We got another surprise burst of ~3" yesterday afternoon right before rush hour. Worst possible time - took about 3 hours to go get my kids from daycare.

So far all we've gotten here (Corbin) is rain. According to the Weather Channel radar, the next 4 or 4 /12 hours will be crucial for us. If we haven't gotten anything much by around 5:00 or 5:30 we should be out of the woods. I hate cold weather and snow, but I can handle those. I said a prayer on the ice though. A lot of things can happen with ice, and they're all bad.

WHAS Ben Pine posted an extended snow map forecast for next week that projected up to 6-inches of snow in the counties south of the Ohio River on Tuesday and a band of snow 1 to 2 feet for the same area on Friday.

Oof! And this ice isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Hopefully this will be a powdery snow. Got plenty of food in the house but can't find ice melt anywhere.

Stouts had a few pallets yesterday, but it must have been in storage. The bags were like bricks and had to be beaten against the pavement numerous times to break them up.

I remember the winter of 2013/2014 - the first that we lived up here - saw a winter similar to this where we got some snow in December, had a pretty non-eventful January, and then just got absolutely smashed with snow after snow after snow in the month of February.

At the time I had a job where calling out because of snow wasn't an option and if you were late you got written up regardless of snow. That was extremely stressful.

^ That winter had some stretches of flipping cold weather, too. I remember having let my pickup warm up for about 10 minutes and then driving about 5 miles to the local hospital for rounding one morning, and it was producing actually hot air only buy the time I arrived. Steering was stiff and the truck creaked like it was frozen. I don't remember the actual ambient temp but that sucked.
