Actor Gregory Sierra, best known for his roles in "Sanford and Son" and "Barney Miller," died on January 4 from cancer, his widow Helene Tabor confirmed to CNN Friday. He was 83.

Sierra was a mighty fine character actor that you could count on to give a solid backing performance.
if I recall, he was Crockett and Tubbs first episode commanding officer before James Olmos took the role.
