Any other travellers here? We just got back from a road trip. We drove I70 through Kansas, stayed in Estes Park, CO and spent a few days exploring Rocky Mountain National Park, then had a few days in Laramie, WY and took 80 back east through Nebraska and clipped the bottom corner of Iowa. We ended up driving straight through on the way home, which took a little over 19 hours. We want to hit all 50 states together and all of the national parks. Any other explorers?

You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

I will say you aren't missing much when it comes to Kansas and Nebraska, though. Really the first two hours of Colorado, either. It's flat, a house or little neighborhood every 30 miles, and some big wind turbines. Nebraska is exactly the same only it has a much lower class feel and it all smells like manure.Comment

We enjoy seeing little, not so touristy stuff on our trips. We took a detour in Kansas to see the world's largest ball of twine. Either the town it was in or the town right before (don't remember) had a population of 202. It was pretty dumb, but it's something we can always joke about now. Too often you hear people say things like "it was so busy/packed everywhere" when they talk about their trips. If that's one of the first things that you remember about a vacation I think you're doing it wrong.

We went out west to Moab for a week and hiked at Arches and Canyonlands NPs. She disliked Moab because it was too small, but enjoyed the hiking. She also disliked that it was a nearly 4 hour drive from Salt Lake City to Moab.
She did, however, like the drive through Napa and Sonoma and the winery visits.

Sounds like a blast. My wife is more suited to going to a spot and sight-seeing in that area for a whole week - like Boston, Charleston where we went and just walked to everything we wanted to see. Often 8-10 miles a day.

I flew to San Diego last year for work and flew over the painted desert and Colorado plateau and now I really want to drive around the desert Southwest. Would love to do Monument Valley/Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree in one drive. Maybe while we’re at it, Death Valley but it’s farther north.
I’ve had a fascination with California my whole life. Can’t imagine there’s a more beautiful spot in the world. Also a weird state. You have the highest and lowest points in the continental US within about 100 miles of each other, the hottest spot in the US, the desert, mountains, and sea, the center of US popular culture. Just a really fascinating place. For a geography nerd like myself, it’s an amazing place.Last edited by Dwight Schrute; 07-30-2020, 12:44 PM.👍 2Comment

Friends of mine just got back from Northern Michigan and Mackinac Island. I didn't realize Michigan was so beautiful and it's definitely on my list of places to visit.👍 1Comment

If we do a Boston trip again soon, we've decided to lengthen the trip and after 4 days in Boston rent a car and drive up to Bar Harbor for 4 days.Extremism is so easy. We've not been the places you went but always wanted to. Don't leave Alaska out for long, and when you go fly into Fairbanks, rent a car and drive to North Pole, 16 miles. Then go out to the pipeline and take the sternwheeler ride. You'll see reindeer and sled dogs. When you get to Danali, take the 8 hour ride into the park and you'll see most every type animal in Alaska, You'll be within 35 miles of Mt McKinley.John 3:3

A friend of mine and his Family rented multiple RVs and spent 3 weeks out West. I was so envious. I'd love to see the West. Northern Cali, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Jackson Hole. I will be there one day.Isaiah 5:20👍 1Comment

We noticed quite a few rented RVs while driving, and no telling how many were rented that didn't have big signs and advertising on the side. I never knew that was a thing. It would definitely save money and be a cool experience.Comment
