    WHERE WERE YOUR GRANDPARENTS FROM

I was fortunate enough to have known all four of my grandparents. On my mama's side: her mother was from Cecilia in Hardin Co. born 1902. Her father was from a village outside of Hamburg, Germany born 1890. On my papa's side: his mother was from Marion Co. born in the very shadow of Bald Knob in 1902. His father was born in the Bradley/Schnitzelburg neighborhood in Louisville in 1897.

I also knew all four of my Grandparents. On my Mothers side. They were both from Meade County outside Brandenburg around the Doe Valley area. May Dad's parents were from Hopkins County in Western Kentucky in Ashbyburg area and the Green River.

Dad's Mom was from Bowling Green area and Grandpa was from Bass, Ky.

Mom's Parent's were from the Crescent Hill area.

I was fortunate enough to have known and loved all four of them. My wife has an Ancestry.com membership. Her and her Mom and Aunt are the historians. They took a guided trip to Warsaw, Poland a few years back and made a stop in Germany for the start of Oktoberfest. I am still jealous. The Wife still gets weepy talking about the Auschwitz tour.

My maternal grandparents were from down close to Mt Vernon when my papaw got work with the L&N Railroad and they moved to Lebanon Junction where they lived until my grandfather died. Grandma later moved to etown to be closer to us.

My dads family is from Bowling Green, but I never knew them.

I don't know much about dad's parents. I believe they were from Leslie Co. My mother's parents came through Cumberland Gap, from Rose Hill, Va., in the early 1900's and settled in Bell Co.

Mother's side: both from Ohio County KY. They had long since moved away by the time I was around.

Fathers side: Grandmother was from Cleaveland by way of Bohemia (now the Czech Republic). Grandfather was born in Iowa but spent most of his childhood on a farm in Frankfort KY or in Cleveland OH. They farmed late spring and summer in Frankfort and went to school in Cleveland in the fall and winter. I don't totally understand how that worked.

I do quite a bit of fishing in Ohio County.
That Frankfort to Cleveland school trek is an odd one for sure!

I was through Hartford / Beaverdam a few months ago. It doesn't seem much different than when I was a kid in the 70s.

I remember reading that. My mother's family has relatives buried at every little podunk cemetery in the county. I've been all over at one time or another. My first roller skating was in Beaver Dam and have seen more than one movie in the Hartford duplex next to what used to be the IGA. (it still maybe)

I haven't been there for several years, but Rick would know.

There are a few Cemeterys in Peabody where I fish. Most headstones bear the name Taylor.

Are you fishing in the WMA or private spot?

It's the WMA. I have seen three cemeteries there. A lot of very young deaths. I did some research on the Taylor's from Ohio County but it's been a while and don't remember much.
