A spectacular musician by any standard. RIP to a great one.

Right up there with Danny Carey and John Bonham as the best drummer of all time.

Would you put Keith Moon or Ginger Baker in there?

Never got into Cream too much. I know they are "credited" for starting metal, which Baker hated, btw. I am not qualified enough to speak on the technical aspects of drumming, or any instrument for that matter. But I know a good drummer when I hear one and those three I listed are my favorites.

People seem to either really like Cream or not like them much at all. Have you ever listened to his work with Blind Faith, Ginger Baker’s Air Force, or the Ginger Baker Trio? That last one, the trio, put out some jazz that I liked a lot. You might enjoy it too. It doesn’t sound at all like Cream. Baker was very versatile.

Ginger Baker was definitely one of the all-time greats, though I'm not sure anyone would get that just from listening to Cream. His style reminded me of Buddy Rich.

Love Keith Moon's style, but in terms of technical ability he was not on the same level as the others mentioned here (imho).

Speaking of accomplished jazz drummers, get a load of this.....

He has the look of a jazz drummer.

Yup. Baker trained as a jazz drummer and preferred to be referred to as a jazz drummer moreso than a rock drummer.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

In the late 70s through late 80s Playboy always featured an annual best X musician with categories for lead guitarist, keyboards, percussion, drums, etc. Typically the list would be top 5. I recall seeing Mick Fleetwood's name among the best of quite often, if not annually.
