Not a big horse racing guy but LOVE to watch the races. It's been 10 years since Mine That Bird won in one the most improbable Derby victories ever. There is something about this race that gets me emotional. Horses in general do that to me. Just beautiful animals.

I’ll leave it to horse racing aficionados to assert whether the call was right or wrong.

Imagine the range of emotions for those who had bet on those two horses. A good friend of mine is a massive horse guy and he agreed with the call. Another friend of mine won $1200 because of the foul. And yet another friend would've won the exacta. I am no horse expert but I thought the call was pretty obvious. It's difficult, for race observers, to make the correct call. The stewards see a different replay view than what's shown on tv, so I imagine it was the correct call.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

As an official, I had to make calls that effected who won. Yesterday was the same thing and there was a foul, so when the foul was obvious they had to go by the rules. However in the case for most sports a foul or violation is the only thing considered when penalizing the offender. I'm no where near a horse racing steward but from what I hear, Stewards must take into consideration if the foul was a factor in who won that race. IMO, the foul was correct but the penalty was not. Without the foul there might have been another winner, but it certainly would not have been Country House.John 3:3

People who know more about horse racing than me say it was the right call, so I have no problem with the steward disqualifying Maximum Security. I don’t like awarding the Derby trophy to Country House, though. I really don’t like the Country House entourage celebrating as if they won like Maximum Security. Winning on a technicality and going forward like nothing happen doesn’t sit well with me.
At this point, if Maximum Security comes out and wins the Preakness and Belmont in convincing fashion, Country House’s people are gonna look like heels.Comment

I can accept that it was the "correct" call in the context of their rules. I do not accept Country House as a winner of anything other than the biggest crybaby rule gaming scum of the year. The foul had no impact on the slower "Country House's failure to be the fastest horse. Literally the "first place loser".
As a fan of Kentucky, horse racing generally and triple crown races, I find it truly disappointing and a black-eye on the sport, the event, and the state. Foul or not, everyone knows who won that race and I'm inclined to agree with Baffert.
