    TV Options

The wife and I have decided we're tired of paying nearly $200.00 a month for tv service. We need the three major networks, HBO, a western channel and the SEC Channel. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have YouTube tv and it is ok. We have amazon prime and subscribe to hbo through that. Were it not for live sports we wouldn’t have anything but Netflix and amazon.

The problem is when you drop cable, your internet bill goes up and the savings aren't as great as they seem. We're paying $70/month for internet, with $13/month for Netflix, $12/month for Hulu, and we also have Amazon Prime. HBO is $15 a month. All told, we're not saving that much money over just having cable.

I also have YouTube TV and Amazon Prime, but I am thinking about dropping both of them. NBA is wrapping up, I don't care about baseball so I'll have to evaluate my options again before football returns.

YouTube has raised prices twice recently, it seems like a lot of these streaming services aren't as competitive as they once were.

I'm probably dropping YouTube TV as soon as the NBA finals are over and will likely pick it up again when College Football starts.

We have DIRECT and our bill just went up again last mo. We're now paying nearly $186.00 per mo., and that's just for tv. We have our internet service with AT&T and they now own DIRECT so I suppose it would be easy for them to raise our internet charges if they wanted to. I've been checking on some alternatives, and we can get all the channels we want from HULU for $44.95 per mo. I'm an old person and any kind of change is a big deal for me, but I'm tired of paying out the ying yang for tv service.

I reached out to the posters regarding this maybe a year ago lol. I haven't paid for TV service since around 1995...that's when I cut the cable. I had zero TV service and found out quickly I didn't miss it one bit. I tried the Prime deal which I just recently cancelled. Last March when I retired I did buy a really good digital antenna and it works great. I even watch some UK games on local stations. If they're not on local tv, I go to a neighborhood pub. TV sucks. I can't handle it.

I could live w/o tv, although I would miss not watching the Cats play fb. My wife, otoh, I don't think she could.

Have you signed on within the past few months? If so, you're getting their new customer "sweetheart" deal. After I believe it's 12 months then your bill will go up and continue to go up as long as you stay with them.

One thing you can try is calling Direct TV customer service and tell them you want to discontinue service. That will funnel you to a different customer service rep that will try to offer you a better deal to stay. (Cable companies do this so I assume Direct TV does too)

I spent about 5 years annually calling TimeWarner/Spectrum cable to go through this song and dance. I averaged taking about $40 / month off the bill and that would "expire" after a year. One year I just told them what I wanted my bill to be and they did it. At no time did I downgrade service. It's worth a try, but you need to know what number would be a net savings. Their shell game with services and prices is intentionally confusing.

We live in the country.....bought a 49 dollar antenna that pulls in about 30 channels. Signed up for Netflix/Hulu and Amazon Prime. We use ROKU to pull all of it together. Total runs a bit less than Thirty dollars a month Good internet connectivity is a must, though.

If you want sports though, you're gonna suffer. Thought about Sling TV through roku....you actually pay for what you want....but haven't tried it

The only sports I'm interested in, these days, is UK fb, and I can get that through Hulu.

Spectrum keeps getting higher and higher. Used to be able to call and ask for the retention department and get a good deal for a year. Those "deals" suck now. What I don't get is that price varies per customer. I have a buddy who has what I have and he is about $30 less and we got our " deals" about the same time. Everbody is out to screw you. The almighty dollar is their god.
