Everything went fine and I am still wondering what all the fuss is about. I have a family history of colon cancer. I am 46 so figured I would get this done. He found one tiny polyp a d removed it, otherwise it went flawless. I write this because of the importance of having a colonoscopy. Had I not had this done it would have been cancer x amount of years down the road. So if you have a family history of colon cancer or if you are pushing 50 and don't have some high fiber in your diet, by all means get this done. It could possibly save your life.

From my perspective, it's the prep that is a bear, not the procedure itself.Philippians 4:11-4:13👍 1 -

I'm in my early thirties and had my first colonoscopy two years ago. Got the "all clear" from the doc, but as someone who suffers from assorted gastric issues, I was very happy to do it. I'm a bit like Sheldon Cooper in that regard: I'd view it as a real treat to spend a weekend at the Mayo Clinic getting scanned from head to toe, just for peace of mind.
But what I really want to say is this: the effect of the colonoscopy prep drinks is truly awe-inspiring.Comment

They gave me pills the last time which was much better. I was fine and at age 75, I won't have to have another.John 3:3

The prep sequence varies from provider to provider and year to year. I had one last year (it wasn't recommended) but based on my concerns about various family members young cancer death my GP made the recomendation.
I "became aware" for a few seconds (or minutes) during the procedure. Like having a dream of intense pain, even that was fleeting.... all in all, it was the unknown that I found stressful.
As for prep, mine was extremely unpleasant. My recommendation would be, (if your bowl function is normal) once your stool is clear enough to read a newspaper through it at the bottom of the bowl... stop the prep. They overdose healthy people to "be sure" that everyone is clear enough. Ouch.Last edited by Spiritof96; 08-07-2017, 09:36 PM.Originally posted by John Stuart MillHe who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that... I've had 3 thus far due to family history. The prep as well as the actual procedure have been relatively benign. Afterwards we usually go to a Thai restaurant and I gorge on the spiciest dish I can get.
My employer related a story from his last visit for a colonoscopy. They wheeled a patient post-procedure into the bed next to him while he was recovering and preparing to change clothes. The doctor soon came to visit the man and his wife. The doctor sounded agitated and asked his patient what did he NOT understand about the prep procedures and instructions. Evidently the guy got up in the middle of the night and made himself a sandwich and didn't tell the doctor. The doctor discovered the sandwich, or remnants thereof, during the procedure. The wife tried to defend her husband, explaining that he was "hungry".Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

I will say one benefit of the cleanse is that I feel really great right now. I have been trying to watch what I eat as I need to lose about 25 pounds.Isaiah 5:20Comment
