Death by suicide. Don't know if you older folks know anything about Linkin Park, but they were a big part of my childhood. They were the band in the early to mid 2000s. He committed suicide on Chris Cornell's birthday, who killed himself 2 months ago. Kind of eerie.

People can argue about the artistic integrity of Linkin Park all they want, but the fact is that Chester Bennington had a very powerful voice.
Even though their first two albums haven't aged very well, they were the soundtrack of millions of teenagers' lives, including mine. They were the one real diamond in the turd sandbox that was early-naughts nu-metal/rap-rock.
I know "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora" like the back of my hand, front-to-back, and their two or three albums following those each had some decent tracks, too. R.I.P. to another singular musical talent, gone far too soon, in what is becoming a far-too-common tragic end. -
I like them a lot. I remember they got all kinds of flack after the Columbine shooting. Apparently, the killers listened to In the End a ton and, according to "hard hitting journalism", was the cause of their rage. Whatever. Killer band Linkin Park was (no pun intended). I love their album A Thousand Suns.
I just don't understand how someone can take their own life. To even entertain the thought, I think you have to be a really messed up individual incapable of dealing with even everyday stresses of life. He was an alcoholic and drug addict so that didn't help. He also had six children who is now Fatherless because of his selfish act. This sin't something I know nothing about either. Last year, six people I knew killed themselves. They seemed normal on the outside, but obviously inside they battled demons. And that's what it is. Demons. Not some cartoony caricature but evil is real. I liked Linkin Park a lot but they are not the only band of that era who mixed rap and rock that I liked. I also like Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Crazy Town and probably others I've forgotten.
I won't miss him like Chris Cornell but still it's very sad.
Oh yeah, Evanescence was good too. A few songs anyway.Comment

I guess because they are the face of the band? A lot to live up to? Singers and drugs have been around forever. Why they choose the way they go out is beyond me. Really sad indeed. He had six kids and he chose the selfish route.Isaiah 5:20Comment

Short-sighted comment. When depressed, the sufferer is not thinking like he/she normally would. In his mind, he probably thought his family was better off without him dragging them down.
Depression is an all-consuming, all-encompassing monster, and our society treats it like it's an afterthought. We pay full attention to cancer or AIDS or heart disease, but chemical imbalances in the brain seem to get a cold shoulder. Not to mention the stigma. It's disgusting.Comment

Not really. Just like when an addict chooses drugs over anything- family, job, or just everyday responsibilities. Just like with drugs or alcohol, being happy and content is a choice. And they know this. This is not saying I don't feel for them because I do. Like I said earlier, I knew six people last year who killed themselves and they all had a ton to live for. Most had families and kids. When you put your addictions over that, I just don't know what there is to say. Chester had known drug and alcohol problems. Where you think the depression came from? When you let the devil in, you better pray you can overcome the temptation because when you get that far, prayer and a true faith is about all that can save you. And let me tell you man, prayer and a true belief in God and the Lord Jesus can save you and pull you through. I am proof positive because I would probably be dead now if it wasn't for that great day in August of 1998. You can laugh that off if you wish, but know this- ain't NOBODY perfect man. Depression isn't "just like drugs or alcohol" at all. Addicts might have made the original choice to take a drink or snort a pill, but people who are clinically depressed don't wake up one day, give depression a try, then get addicted to depression. It's an illness that besets the afflicted without warning. Once depression sets in, those people might try to cope with drugs or alcohol, but in no way, shape or form does depression begin in the same way as drug or alcohol addiction.Comment
