The Man Who Went on a Hike--And Never Stopped Walking

This guy had all ten toenails surgically removed to prevent infection. Amazing story.

MJ Eberhart – AKA Nimblewill Nomad – has become a legendary figure among fellow hikers, even having his toenails surgically removed to prevent infection

Outstanding Will...thanks for sharing!!! Man of my heart in lots of ways. Imagine the sights this guy has experienced lol. Kinda of surprised he's walked so much without getting eaten by a bear, mountain lion, gator etc. I guess getting struck by lightning counts for something.

Oh man, what a story! This man is awesome. I like his views on life. I love to hike and enjoy the outdoors, but I also love to come home afterwards and shower and tell my family of my adventures. I really don't understand why he had let his family go. I guess he was just never the type to settle into that lifestyle. That he was sort of faking it all along. Still, the willingness to get rid of possessions and be one with nature does strike a cord with me. If you like this story, then I suggest you look up Dick Proenneke. This man moved to Alaska and built a cabin with the intention on staying a year. He wound up staying a couple decades and his cabin is a destination for those that love his dedication to nature. He built the cabin by hand with obviously no power tools. He even made some tools. That cabin is a testament to hard work and finding satisfaction and beauty in it. I saw his documentary "Alone in the Wilderness" about ten years ago on KET. They play it every few years and it is nothing short of amazing. The book of the same name is fantastic as well.

On a side note, there is a video series on youtube called Adventure Archives. Three Central Ohio hikers go to various places and document their journey. They have a video of their adventure in Red River Gorge. This is a MUST SEE for those who love the Gorge and the outdoors in general.

I read this book long ago, and enjoyed it. The synopsis section in the Wikipedia article explains some of why, but the book has a lot more to it than just that.
