Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Still one of the most thrilling things I have ever seen in sports. You wouldn't think that with a win by as much as he did. But it was just amazing.
    Kentucky fan since 1971.

Every time I read something about Secretariat or watch the movie, I get all teary eyed like an idiot. I was 9 years old when Secretariat won the Triple Crown and the Derby win grabbed my attention to horse racing for good, simply due to the sheer beauty and combination of raw power and grace these animals exhibited. I still recall making a point to watch the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes - pretty sure it was via news cast and not live. Can't remember.

It's been a love hate-relationship since then. Love the sport and the horses, hate the in-breeding that increases chances of breakdowns.

I've got a signed print of the Belmont win (Turcotte looking over his shoulder) above the fire place.

Secretariat still holds the 1/4. 1/2 and 1-1/4 times at Belmont and in all three races, each 1/4 was faster than the previous.

Last footage of Secretariat - taken by WDRB's Bill Lamb, 3 days prior to his death.

I'll never forget that day. Saw the movie and relived it again.

I was 2 when that happened but have watched that race many times and cry everytime. My MaMaw and PaPaw had somewhat of a mini shrine dedicated to Secreteriat . Memorabilia everywhere. I got some of that stuff.

There is just something about horses, and movies about them, that gives me all the feels.
              Hidalgo? Onions
              War Horse? Extra onions
Seabiscuit? Onion overload. That movie gets me crying like a baby.
