My bro in law had one years ago. He always said it was up there as far as best ever built. He didn't have a title so he drove it on some farm land out in Bullitt County. I have always heard they are damn near indestructable and that they never met terrain they didn't like.Isaiah 5:20 -
Downes, frame rust will be your greatest enemy. If the body is rusted up really bad, chances are the frame is toast. Those things look awesome fixed up though. I would imagine parts would be really expensive as well. Post a pic of it.Isaiah 5:20Comment

As is the case with any vintage vehicle, if one has the money and wants to have it restored to keep, that's fine. Usually, if you're having such a vehicle restored hoping to resell it, and make a profit, it's not financially practical unless you have the time and expertise to do most of the work yourself.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

This is what worries me most. There's plenty of rust on the body - not huge patches, but it's widespread. I've always wanted an old 4x4, but a Scout wouldn't have been my first choice. Still, couldn't pass up a giveaway. I'm hoping I can flip it for a buck or two toward something with a brighter future.

I'm leaning toward selling. It would take a little bit of money to even get it to a point where I could use it to bump around in the mountains and haul my canoe/skis/bike. Even with those upgrades/fixes, I can't imagine I'd ever get a decent return on my investment. For it to have any real market value, it would need a more substantial restoration than I'm willing to attempt. That isn't to say it's in bad shape - it runs fine and actually looks pretty good, aside from some expected rust - but I'm just not looking for that kind of project.

That's a bummer man. I was hoping to see a pic of it all gussied up. Land Cruisers are EXPENSIVE. Even the older ones. If your choice is between that or a 20+ year old Cherokee, then by all means get the Jeep. Those 6 cylinders are tough as nails and parts aren't nearly as expensive/hard to find.Comment

Got the XJ today. Guy posted it last night, and a buddy and I drove to Blowing Rock this morning to get it. It's frickin' sweet, man, and the guy I bought it from had just put a brand new set of the new BFG all-terrains on it. I was gonna do that anyway, so that's what really sealed the deal.Isaiah 5:20Comment

It's a '00 Cherokee "Classic" model. Has the 4.0 inline six, fairly low miles for the age, and the body and interior are in excellent shape. After looking for one for the better part of a month, it's the only one that really checked all the boxes. I've gotta get in there and replace the valve cover gasket, and I think it needs a pinion seal, but I'm thrilled with it, regardless.Comment
