    Louisville Gardens

There was an article in the CJ today on the current state of Louisville Gardens, along with several photos showing how various parts of the interior look these days, after its closure in 2008:

What kind of memories do some posters have of that building? I saw some concerts and basketball games there, and a couple of other events.

It was U of L's home arena until they moved to Freedom Hall. Same for the ABA Kentucky Colonels. After the Colonels left, some minor league basketball teams played there.

I called HS, college and pro games there. I worked two Catbird games and the league never paid me for either. The LIT and Regional games were played there for years. I even played a couple games there.

Best memory was 3rd row at the Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck concert late fall 1989.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

I saw some really great concerts there but nothing compares to seeing Stone Temple Pilots there when they were in their heyday. That music, during that time, with that crowd, and that band came together perfectly. I have seen a lot of concerts and that show always sticks out. Absolutely killer show.

I read that the SEC tournament was held at the Louisville Gardens for 12 straight years starting in the 1940's until it was discontinued about 1953.
            Kentucky fan since 1971.

I saw the Ramones there in the mid-90's.

Last time I went to the Gardens was to see a high school-age Deandre Liggins in an exhibition game.
