There have been so many great artists and songs down through the decades that it's almost impossible for me to pin down my favorite(s), but I believe the Beatles are my all time favorite band. I was 18 when they burst onto the American music scene and I instantly fell in love with their sound. My girlfriend, at the time, and I were listening to some Boston radio station and they came on with, I believe, "I Want To Hold Your Hand". I told her "I don't know who these guys are, but they are going to be famous".
I'm still struck by the musical genius of each member as an individual. I've also been listening to this album lately all things must pass:

It's interesting that you should make this comment. Just yesterday, I was thinking of some of the duos, trios, bands etc. that were successful and, in some cases, some of the members and, in others, all of the members experienced great success after they went their separate ways while, in some cases, none of the members enjoyed the success they enjoyed while they were together. The Beatles are one example. After their break-up, John, Paul and George were highly successful. Ringo was moderately successful but not nearly so much as the other three.
I do think he is underated as a drummer and musician. Everyone criticizes him for being "simplistic" or some such, but then they can't play like him or capture his feel.Originally posted by John Stuart MillHe who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that...
