Can’t figure out copy and paste on the iPad but I have been listening to anything from a Tyler Childers a lot these last few months. He reminds me of John Prine in that he is just a killer song writer. Beats anything on “country” radio today by a mile. Plus he’s a Kentucky boy.

I love Tyler Childers. Everything you said is true, plus he just seems like a pretty kick ass guy. He bought a crapload of cases of water to help out Martin Countians and the lack of clean water and in the process has inspired other people to help out too. Seems like he's a proud Eastern Kentuckian through and through, and to say nothing of his talent, I want him to succeed because of that.

The genre of "Americana" or Alt-country has exploded in the last few years. Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Margo Price, Amanda Shires (the wife of Jason Isbell) are all getting a lot of critical acclaim even though they don't get much radio play. People like authenticity, which explains the resurgence of craft beer, Kentucky bourbon, and it extends into music, I think. Too much of country radio these days sounds like it was baked up in a corporate boardroom to be palatable to a mass audience.

Speaking of John Prine, I love that he, a throat cancer survivor in his 70s is still as popular as ever and is still making music.

I agree Dwight. Cody Jinks and Colter Wall are other good ones to check out. I find my music anymore from youtube. I get on a kick and just keep going further down the rabbit hole.
