Now that I'm playing with another musician and putting together a set list of 40+ songs, I'm reminded how simple many songs that have become 'classics' are to play. Not always to sing, mind you, but many pop/rock songs have 3 or 4 chords and perhaps another one or two additional in the bridge. But, the magic, imo, is creating a feeling or a rush of adrenaline for even the simplest of chords/riffs. Go Your Own Way is 4 chords and a basic progression. Start Me Up opening riff is 2 chords, but it's instantly recognizable and immediately jerks the audience up out of their seats. It's magic, man, magic!

I remember reading an interview with Keith Richards and he stated that it's damn hard to write a good/great 3 chord song. He wasn't necessarily disparaging artists with much more complicated musical structures, just that what he and many others have done is very difficult to do - continue to crank out amazing, simple songs that people enjoy.

Whenever I hear this song I think of being a kid and my Sis and I riding with Mom and Dad to their co-ed softball games way back in the day. Mom singing it during the ride. I have a soft spot for Fleetwood Mac because it reminds me so much of 7 year old me. The Rumours album was on steady album rotation growing up in our house.

Aside from the fact that I just enjoy listening to music, that's one of the things I like about it. I can listen to certain songs and they evoke memories of another time and place.
