Listening to WFPK yesterday on the drive home and Giles Martin, son of the late Sir George Martin was being interviewed about his latest project - remixing "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album for the 50th anniversary of it's release. The clips of the remix were amazing - in particular, "A Day in the Life". Included in the interview were various "takes" from the tapes, among them several takes of simply the last chord in the song. Interestingly, the Beatles had recorded a choir humming the last chord, but decided not to use it. Thank God.
Listening to various mixes of the song gave me a newfound appreciation of it.
I think it's among the most beautifully assembled, produced songs in the last 50, if not 100 years.
