COLUMBIA, S.C. – Junior pitcher Sarah Haendiges threw a complete game Sunday night, allowing only one run, but the Wildcats fell 1-0 to South Carolina as the Game****************s secured the series with the win as UK was held to just two hits in the game.
The game’s only run came in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Game****************s had runners on first and second with one out, and after UK recorded a fielder’s choice out on a groundball to second base, the runner at third continued running and touched home before the throw could get to the plate. That threat was then extinguished by Karissa Hamilton on a runner caught stealing of second base to end the inning.
Kentucky had two hits in the game as Lauryn Borzilleri and Hallie Mitchell each recorded singles in the contest with Borzilleri’s coming in the first and Mitchell’s coming in the seventh inning. The Wildcats had runners on first and second with no outs to start the game in the top of the first, but were unable to capitalize on the threat in the frame.
Game three of the series will be Monday night at 7 p.m. ET on SEC Network. Kentucky is now 27-19 overall with a 6-11 Southeastern Conference record. The 12th-ranked Game****************s are 34-11 and sit 9-8 in the SEC after tonight’s game.
