SHOCKER: Kentucky WBB is the best shot-blocking team in the country (and Top 25 in se

Through two games, Kentucky has proven to be extremely dominant in some areas under Kenny Brooks. His teams are predicated on having size and length across the board, and that’s no different with this roster.

For the ‘Cats, that means that they’ll be able to put up some special numbers at times, and they’ve done that against USC Upstate and Northern Kentucky. According to the NCAA, Kentucky is the best shot-blocking team in all of the land, averaging 14 blocks per game thus far.

Clara Silva has already recorded 11 blocks on the year herself, and players like Clara Strack, Teonni Key and even 5-foot-6 Georgia Amoore have helped contribute with plenty of rejections of their own. However, it isn’t just shot-blocking that Kentucky is great at.

    In the country, Kentucky is…
    • 4th in Assist/Turnover Ratio (2.82)
    • 10th in Assists Per Game (24)
    • 21st in Scoring Defense (42 PPG)
    • 24th in Defensive Rebounds Per Game (33.5)
    • 25th in Field Goal Percentage Defense (27.7%)

Those stats alone should be pretty good indicators of what the Big Blue Nation can expect Kentucky to do this season. Offensively, the operation is going to be efficient. There’s going to be a lot of passing to find the best shot possible.

On the defensive side, the ‘Cats are going to use their size and length to contest shots and get after it on the boards — exactly what you should want on that end of the floor.

When you pair efficient offense with intensity on defense, that usually leads to long-term success. Those statistics are a positive sign of what’s to come if the ‘Cats can keep those numbers up.
