                    Trivia regarding this song.

Billy Sherrill, the genius behind a number of Jones' and Wynette's hits as well as many others, prodded Jones to record this song. Jones avoided it for months, thinking it was too depressing and dark for people to buy it.
Eventually Jones reluctantly relented and recorded it. As soon as he finished recording, he told Sherrill, "You got your record, but nobody will buy that morbid sonofa********************". Sherrill was right again.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

I always thought depressing was one of the staples of the country music of Jones' time. I don't know anything about today's country (or any other genre) music as I don't listen to any of it.

Today's country ain't country. My wife likes some of it, but ........... I can't.

I always thought the biggest thematic difference between country music and rock music was extra-marital sex and pre-marital sex.
